 Background

Phumani Paper has been training talented crafters across South Africa to produce quality handmade paper and paper products since 2000. Our organization has assisted in the creation of more than 250 jobs in communities affected by unemployment and HIV/AIDS. Most of the paper crafters are located in rural areas - where few employment and marketing opportunities exist.

Our Vision:

“To provide our handmade paper making enterprises with a path towards reaching their goals of individuality and economic sustainability”.

The Phumani Paper National Office is based in Johannesburg and is ideally positioned to create market opportunities for the producer groups. Phumani Paper provides access to markets, business skills training and innovative product design and development to all of the units. Each unit has undergone, and continues to undergo, specifically targeted training to attain the high levels of skill needed to compete within the craft sector on a local and international level.

Our crafters produce unique handmade paper and innovative products made from alien invasive plants, agro waste such as sugar cane, recycled waste materials and other fibres found within the direct vicinity of each business unit.
